Oscar’s On, and So Is The Party!

(Cape May, NJ) The writer’s strike appears to be in its final stages with tentative agreements in place between the Writer’s Guild of America and the major media companies. “That means Oscar is on, and so is our party” says Tom Sims, Executive Director of the Cape May New Jersey State Film Festival. Sims is referring to the Film Festival’s annual Oscar Party, which will be held February 24 at the Beach Theatre. “We can’t think of a better place to take what has been traditionally a house party than the newly refreshed Beach Theatre!” Sims says, explaining that the party has been growing in size over the years, indeed outgrowing a local resident’s home where it has been hosted in the past.

The Film Festival and Beach Theatre plan to roll out the red carpet and have “paparazzi” on hand to snap photos of all the guests as they arrive. “We always have fun with this program,” says Sims. “This is Hollywood’s biggest night, and it’s our chance to show our appreciation of films and the filmmakers. We hope everyone who loves movies will join us.

“We’re excited to have this party here,” says Steve Jackson, President of the Beach Theatre Foundation. “It’s a perfect fit—like when we had our Grand Reopening of the theater for the Film Festival last November. It’s no surprise that our two organizations should work so well together—it’s all about the movies.”

The Cape May New Jersey State Film Festival is the state’s premiere film festival dedicated exclusively to the support and presentation of creative, challenging, groundbreaking, film and video works by New Jersey filmmakers. The Festival is also the region’s leading educational and cultural resource for youth and adult learners interested in all facets of the cinematic experience. For further program information, contact the Film Festival office at 609-884-6700 or visit them online at www.njstatefilmfestival.com.

The Beach Theatre Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed to preserve and restore the historically authenticated Beach Theatre in Cape May, New Jersey and utilize the complex as a state-of-the-art showcase for cinema and the arts. Excellence in a diverse array of films will be the hallmark of the theatre for the cultural benefit of the residents of Cape May, Southern New Jersey and visitors from around the world.
