Great Dog Films This Weekend: Dog and Her Mom Transformed by Tragedy of 9/11
(Cape May, NJ) This Sunday, the Cape May New Jersey State Film Festival goes to the Dogs—with very entertaining and moving dog films! One of the films is called “A Dog’s Life: A Dogamentary,” which has been featured on The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, The New York Times, and several other local and national news programs.
According to the film production company, what began as a light-hearted film about one day in Chelsea's life turned into a story about a single woman's search for love and the unmatchable bond between humans and animals. While filming in downtown New York on September 11th, 2001, Gayle's camera turned on something shocking: the twin towers falling. When a grief-stricken woman asked if she could hold Chelsea for comfort, Gayle realized that her playful companion might have a larger purpose.
Soon, Chelsea was certified as a therapy dog, visiting families affected by the World Trade Center attacks as well as patients in hospitals. Chelsea was credited with bringing a woman out of a coma. Chelsea and Gayle have attracted the attention of international media, including a front page feature article in the The New York Times, an appearance on the Today Show, and the Howard Stern show and an article in the Ladies' Home Journal. The film includes guest appearances by celebrities including Katie Couric.
The Films will be shown at the Beach Theatre on March 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. A portion of proceeds benefits Animal Outreach.
